Paper Tarot Journal Terms of Use
Last updated: September 7, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") explain the rules for using Paper Tarot Journal ("Paper Tarot Journal," "we," "us," or "our"), an iOS app.
By using Paper Tarot Journal, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. What Paper Tarot Journal is
Paper Tarot Journal is a personal tarot journal and paper scrapbook. It gives you historical card reference material and an almanac, tools for recording readings and laying out pages, a calendar with reminders, on-screen practice companions, moon phases, and account sync of your journal between your own devices.
Everything the app shows about a card, a spread, a moon phase, a date, or a prompt is reference and reflection material. It is a starting point for your own thinking and writing. It is not a statement of fact about you, about anyone else, or about anything that has happened or will happen.
2. Paper Tarot Journal does not predict anything
This is the most important part of these Terms.
Paper Tarot Journal does not predict, forecast, foresee, foretell, or estimate future events. Card text, spreads, layouts, prompts, rituals, moon phases, almanac entries, and daily draws are provided for personal reflection, journaling, and entertainment only.
Cards are chosen by an ordinary random number generator in the software, or by you on screen. Nothing in the app is a prediction, a forecast, a probability, a sign, a diagnosis, a measurement, or a finding of fact about anything.
We do not promise, and the app does not deliver, any result, benefit, insight, luck, protection, healing, manifestation, wellbeing outcome, change in your circumstances, or change in the behavior of any person. Features named with words like "wish," "intention," "release," "ritual," or "outcome" describe an on-screen writing exercise and whatever you choose to record about it. They do not describe an effect in the world.
3. No professional advice
Paper Tarot Journal does not provide medical, psychological, psychiatric, therapeutic, religious, spiritual, legal, financial, investment, tax, insurance, employment, relationship, or other professional advice. Using it does not create a professional, therapeutic, or advisory relationship. It is not a medical device, a diagnostic tool, a treatment, or a substitute for a qualified professional.
Do not use Paper Tarot Journal as a basis for decisions about your health, medication, safety, money, contracts, work, travel, or the wellbeing of a child or anyone who depends on you. Do not delay, avoid, or stop professional care or advice because of anything the app shows you.
You are responsible for every decision you make and every action you take.
4. Other people, and moments when you need help
Do not use Paper Tarot Journal to reach conclusions about, make decisions for, or take action against another person, including an employee, a candidate, a patient, a client, a student, a child, a partner, or a family member. Do not present anything from the app to anyone as a prediction, a finding, or professional advice.
Paper Tarot Journal is not a crisis or support service. Nobody reads your journal and nobody will answer it. If you may be in danger, if you are worried about your safety or someone else's, or if you are in a medical or mental health crisis, contact your local emergency services or a crisis support service immediately.
5. Age
Paper Tarot Journal is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 13, do not use it. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use the app only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
Some historical decks in the app contain artwork with nudity, death imagery, and violent scenes, presented as it was originally made.
6. Accounts and sign-in
You can keep a journal on your device without creating an account. Sign in with Apple or Google to sync your journal between your own devices. Local-only use does not upload your journal.
You are responsible for your device, your Apple or Google account, your email inbox, and your sign-in session. Do not use another person's credentials or email address. Write to hi@left-hand.studio if you think your account has been compromised.
If you use the app without signing in, deleting it or losing the device may mean losing your local journal. Sign in and allow sync to complete if you want a server copy.
7. Your journal, sync, and backup
Everything you write, draw, photograph, or record in Paper Tarot Journal is yours. We do not claim ownership of it, we do not send it to any AI service, and we do not use it to train models.
Your journal is stored on your device. When you sign in and sync, entries and attachments are uploaded to your account over an encrypted connection. This release does not provide end-to-end encryption: the service can technically read synced content. Account-based access controls protect records from access by other users. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle that content.
You can share page images from the app. This is not a complete archive export; keep your own copies of important content.
Paper Tarot Journal is not a backup service, an archive, a medical or legal record, or emergency storage. Sync, conflicts between devices, device clocks, storage limits, and operating system behavior can all affect which version of an edit is kept. Keep your own copies of anything you would be upset to lose.
8. Your content is your responsibility
You are responsible for everything you create, write, photograph, record, and place in the app, and for everything you send out of it.
You agree not to use Paper Tarot Journal to create or share anything unlawful, threatening, harassing, abusive, hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit or exploitative, invasive of another person's privacy, or otherwise harmful, and not to upload material you do not have the right to use. Do not use the app to impersonate another person or organization.
We are not responsible for what you make with the app or for what happens after you share it.
9. Sharing to other apps
Paper Tarot Journal can turn a reading or a page into a picture and hand it to another app you choose, or to the iOS share sheet. When you do that:
- you are publishing that picture yourself, outside the app and outside the app;
- the app you send it to, and anyone you send it to, handle that copy under their own terms, not ours;
- we cannot recall, delete, or control that copy; and
- you are responsible for having the right to share what the picture contains, including photographs, another person's likeness or private information, and any artwork with restrictions on republication.
Sharing only ever happens when you start it.
10. Practice tools
Paper Tarot Journal includes on-screen companions and rituals, among them a candle that stays lit on an optional timer, a paced metronome for breathing or counting that uses animation and haptics, and writing rituals that end in an animation.
These are writing and attention exercises. They are not therapy, treatment, meditation instruction, breathing therapy, or medical care, and they are not tested for any therapeutic effect. Some prompts and card meanings touch on themes like loss, endings, fear, or regret.
Stop if you feel unwell, light-headed, or distressed. Do not use these tools while driving or doing anything that needs your attention. If you have a heart, breathing, anxiety, or seizure condition, or any condition that may be affected by paced breathing, sustained animation, repeated haptics, or a bright screen, speak to a qualified professional first. Nothing in the app asks you to light a real flame. A companion left running with the screen on is your responsibility, including battery use and heat.
11. Our content and your licence to use the app
We give you a personal, limited, revocable, non-transferable licence to use Paper Tarot Journal on Apple devices you own or control, in line with the Apple Media Services usage rules. Nothing in the app is sold to you and no ownership passes to you.
The historical card images in the app come from works in the public domain. The rest belongs to us: the software, the app's design and interface, the original illustrations, stickers, papers and materials, the almanac and card texts, translations, the arrangement of the content, and the name Paper Tarot Journal.
You may use all of it inside the app, for yourself. You may not copy, extract, scrape, republish, redistribute, sell, license, modify, or build on our illustrations, materials, texts, design, or the card corpus, and you may not reverse engineer or circumvent the app's security, except where applicable law allows it despite this clause. Sharing a picture the app made, as described in section 9, is allowed.
12. Acceptable use
You agree not to interfere with the app, its accounts, sync, security, rate limits, analytics, purchases, or infrastructure, not to attempt unauthorized access, not to harvest the app or its content by automated means, and not to offer paid readings, divination, or advisory services to other people while presenting anything from the app as professional advice.
We may investigate misuse and restrict or end access where reasonably necessary to protect the app, its users, or others, or to comply with the law.
13. Subscriptions and purchases
The journal is free to use. Paper Tarot Journal may offer paid features as subscriptions, and payments are handled by Apple through the App Store.
Prices, billing periods, trial availability, renewal terms, taxes, and cancellation rules are shown by Apple at the time of purchase and may differ by country. If you start a free trial for an auto-renewing subscription, Apple may charge you when the trial ends unless you cancel before the deadline Apple shows you. A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it.
You can manage, cancel, or restore subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings. Deleting the app or deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Paid access needs an active entitlement from Apple, so if a purchase cannot be verified, paid features may stay locked until verification succeeds. Nothing here limits refund or consumer rights you have by law.
Journal content you made while subscribed, including existing voice notes and reminders, is not locked when a subscription ends.
14. Notifications, moon phases, and content accuracy
Reminders and calendar alerts are delivered by iOS as local notifications on your device. Their timing depends on your permissions, settings, time zone, and device state, and delivery is not guaranteed. Do not use them for medication, appointments, or anything where a missed notification would matter.
Moon phases, calendar events, and historical or interpretive card material are provided on a best-effort basis and may contain errors. Do not use them for navigation, safety, agriculture, or scientific work.
15. Availability and changes to the app
We may change, add, remove, pause, or discontinue features, content, prices, and offers over time, for product, legal, safety, technical, or business reasons. Internet, iCloud, provider, and device problems can interrupt sign-in, sync, backup, restoring purchases, or notifications. Local features may keep working offline, but we do not promise that everything will always be available or error-free.
16. Stopping, and deleting your account
You can stop using Paper Tarot Journal at any time.
Delete your account in Profile to remove the account and associated journal data from our servers. This also erases entries, photos, voice notes and events on the iPhone where you perform deletion. Apple sign-in access is revoked if applicable. This action cannot be undone and does not remotely erase copies shared or kept on other devices. Deleting the account does not cancel an App Store subscription; manage subscriptions separately through Apple.
We may suspend or end access for a serious or repeated breach of these Terms, a security threat, a legal requirement, or if we discontinue the app. The parts of these Terms that should outlast the end of your use of the app do so, including ownership, disclaimers, and limits on liability.
17. Third-party services
Paper Tarot Journal relies on services we do not control, including Apple, StoreKit, iCloud, Supabase, PostHog, and optional Google sign-in, and it can hand a picture to another app you choose. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, and you are also subject to your mobile data provider's terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.
18. No warranties
Paper Tarot Journal is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, accurate, complete, current, suitable for your situation, or available at all times, and we do not guarantee that any card, text, ritual, reminder, or feature will produce a particular emotional, creative, spiritual, or practical result.
19. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, opportunities, emotional wellbeing, business, or goodwill arising from your use of or inability to use Paper Tarot Journal. This includes any decision you or anyone else made after using the app, and the loss of journal content.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for intent, gross negligence, personal injury, or your mandatory rights as a consumer.
20. Privacy
Your use of Paper Tarot Journal is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what stays on your device, what our server can see, how sync works, what analytics we collect, and how account deletion works.
21. Apple
You and we acknowledge that:
- these Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we alone are responsible for Paper Tarot Journal and its content;
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app;
- your licence to use the app is limited as described in section 11 and must not conflict with the Apple Media Services usage rules;
- if the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses are our responsibility;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for handling product, legal, regulatory, consumer protection, privacy, and intellectual property claims about the app;
- you may not use the app if you are located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, or if you are on a US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties, and you must comply with applicable export and sanctions laws; and
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
22. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the app changes. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continuing to use Paper Tarot Journal after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
